Update 7/17/23: If you close a card, you become eligible again for the $40 coupon after 90 days from when you last opened the card.

(ht Tom MacDonald) This time they are requiring a coupon via Target Circle to get the deal which means it no longer works twice. Also notable, they exclude the Reloadable card now from earning the $40 coupon.

Our Verdict
This is a regular offer and one of the best offered for REDcard, previous offers can be viewed here. Sometimes we see $50 off, but that requires $100 in spend. Sometimes you can also get $4 via Swagbucks as well but not currently available. There is no hard pull for the debit card or reloadable card.
It seems Target now allows opening the card again every 180 days. If you closed out an old card and it’s been more than 180 days since opening the previous card, they should approve you for a new one. (Previously it was every 90 days.)
